Information institution have been classified into four ways:
Public Libraries of various types; Academic libraries serving several universities and colleges; School libraries serving students till class 12 and Specific libraries catering the need of specific environment like private business, hospitals, museums etc.
All these libraries are commonly guided by technical services, administrative services, user service and computer services.

Information can come from observations, individuals, papers, talks, images, and organisations. Print, non-print, and electronic media or formats are all possible for information sources.
- Information can originate from a variety of sources, including first-hand knowledge, books, articles, professional opinions, encyclopaedias, and the Internet. Depending on how it will be used, a different type of information will be required. Every day, as people go about their jobs, they produce information. Both faculty and students in academic institutions access a variety of information sources. The type of information requested typically dictates which source should be used. Here are the three categories of information sources:

- Secondary
- Tertiary
