Answer:

The main principle of classification is to arrange all plants of a similar character (one type of character), in a group. Previously the entire living creatures were placed either in Plant or in the Animal Kingdom.

The seven major tracheophyte (vascular) divisions include these:

Lycopodiophyta – clubmosses.

Pteridophyta - ferns and horsetails.

Pinophyta - conifers.

Cycadophyta - cycads.

Ginkgophyta - ginkgos.

Gnetophyta - gnetae.

Magnoliophyta - flowering plants.

The plant kingdom has been classified into five subgroups according to the above-mentioned criteria:

Thallophyta.

Bryophyta.

Pteridophyta.

Gymnosperms.

Angiosperms.

Hope it helps
