The East India company was formed to attract India to join with them.
It was there to open up a company which is called th East India Company.
The company then first started its rule in West Bengal, which was the most advanced state in the time. Once it got hold of it, then all the India was easy to capture.
The Britishers led to many fights between kings by summoning greed in them and so there were a few who could fight with the Britishers.
They toughened the rules and made India an almost uninhabitable place to live. The people of India were seriousy tortured by the British.
But in 1857, the Indian soldiers started a revolt against the Britishers. This was because the guns' cartridges were greased with cow and pig fat. The Hindus worshipped cows and the Muslims did not eat pigs because pigs were very unhygienic.
However this revolt was won by the Britishers, this sparked a fire of protest and Quit India movement and we got freedom in 1947.
