British imposed heavy taxes on the export of Indian handicrafts which destroyed the domestic industry. British introduced textiles made by modern machinery which was better in quality and cheaper than Indian handicrafts. Educated classes started wearing western clothes and using foreign made handicrafts which killed the demand for Indian handicrafts.
