Environmental problems are also social problems
Answers
Yes. Deforestation leads to many social problems. It shows the disparity between the rich and the poor. Deforestation and Afforestation happen because of the rich. The rich want “timber”, they destroy the trees and if they want to plant trees, it is done so, near the areas of their affinity.
The village people are the sufferers. According to a research “Vidharbha” is a water scarcity land but some of the water parks are found there. Water; instead of being used for Agriculture, it is used for pleasure by the rich. The farmers, who did know how to survive in the changing environment, had committed suicide and 70% of it was from Vidharbha.
This is one of the many that I have discussed on the topic, “Environmental problems are also Social problems.”
Environmental problems are social problems as well because they create social inequality.
A person's social status depends on his ability to cope up with environment related problems.
For instance, in the areas where there is scarcity of water the rich farmers invest in deep bore tube wells to get underground water while the poor farmers cannot afford to get tube wells. The problem becomes worse when the rains fail and the fields of the poorer farmers become dry.
Environmental issues like air pollution and loss of biodiversity are universal concerns. Many times the decisions taken to save the environment hurt the interest of weaker groups and minorities.
