➡Epiglottis is a thin elastic flap present above the larynx.

➡It prevents the food from entering into the larynx.

\textbf {Pharynx - Food}

\textbf {Larynx - wind}

➡It avoids choking of food.

➡If the epiglottis doesn't work properly the food gets inhaled and you will suffer.

➡So it acts as a seal for windpipe and it leads the pharynx to the gastrointestinal tract.
