Equal length of magnesium ribben are taken in two test tubes ‘a' and ‘b\ h2so4 is added to test tube ‘a' and h2co3 in the test tube ‘b' in equal amounts:
(a) identify the test tube showing vigorous reaction
(b)Give reason to support your answer
(c)Name the gas liberated in both the tubes. How will you prove its liberation?

a. test tube (a) will show vigorous reaction.

b. Mg is more reactive element as it comes in the 4th position of metal reactivity series. H²So⁴ is very strong acid as compared to H²Co³ so, this is the reason for this action.

c. hydrogen is liberated in both the test tubes Mg is more reactive than H so hydrogen is liberates as a gas. H² gas can be checked by taking a matchstick over so test tube and the matchstick will burn with pop sound.

d. Mg+H²So⁴ = MgSo⁴+H²

Mg+H²Co³=MgCo³+H²
