Equation for statement "one third of a number plus 5 is 8" is

1/3x = 8-5 =3

x = 3×3

x = 9

b) 1/3 + 5x =8

5x =8-1/3

5x = (24-1)/3 = 23/3

x = 23/3×5

x = 23/15

c) x = 8×3/5

x =24/5

d) x ×1/3 +5 = 8

x × 1/3 = 8-5 =3

x = 3×3

=9
