( NH4 )2 Cr2O7 + heat - - - - - - - - - - > N2 + 4 H20 + Cr2O3

When ammonium dichromate is heated , it will be decomposed into nitrogen ( N2 ), water ( H2O ) and chromium ( III ) oxide ( Cr2O3 ) .

n = m / M

= 63 / 252

= 0.25 mol

n of H2O evaporated = 0.25 x 4 = 1 mol

m of H2O = 1 x 18 = 18 g

n of N2 evaporated = 1 x 0.25 = 0.25 mol

m of N_2 released = (14 + 14 ) x 0.25 = 7g

Total mass loss = 18 + 7 = 25 g
