Given : line passing through the point (1,2) and having intercepts on

the axes in the ratio 2:3

To Find : Equation of the line

A) 3x+4y=11 B) 3x+2y=7

C) 3x-2y=7 D) 4x+y=6

Solution:

Having intercept on the axes in the ratio 2 : 3

Slope = 3/2  or  - 3/2

y = (3/2)x  + c     or   y = (-3/2)x  + c

=> 2y = 3x  + c   or  2y = -3x + c

=>3x - 2y =  c   or  3x + 2y  = c

Point ( 1 , 2) lies on line Hence

3x - 2y =  c  => 3(1) - 2(2) = c  => c = - 1

=> 3x - 2y = - 1  not in options

3x + 2y  = c => 3(1) + 2(2) =c => c = 7

3x + 2y  = 7

Option B) 3x+2y=7 is correct
