SOLUTION

GIVEN

Equations 3x - 2y = 1 and (k + 1)x + 6y = 10 represent parallel lines

TO DETERMINE

The value of k

EVALUATION

Here the given equation of the lines are

3x - 2y = 1 - - - - -(1)

(k + 1)x + 6y = 10 - - - - (2)

Slope of the first line is

\displaystyle\sf{ =  \frac{3}{2} }

Slope of the second line is

\displaystyle\sf{ = -   \frac{(k + 1)}{6} }

Since two lines are parallel

So slope of the lines are equal

\displaystyle\sf{  -   \frac{(k + 1)}{6}  =  \frac{3}{2} }

\displaystyle\sf{   \implies  2(k + 1) =    - 18 }

\displaystyle\sf{   \implies  (k + 1) =    - 9 }

\displaystyle\sf{   \implies  k  =    - 10}

FINAL ANSWER

Hence the required value of k = - 10
