Answer:

Explanation:

1. Bauxite contains oxides of Si and Ti as impurities, which is leached off from its ore. NaOH is added to this powdered alumina which reacts to form the following products.

Al₂O₃ + 2NaOH + 3H₂O → 2Na[Al(OH)₄]

2Na[Al(OH)₄] + CO₂ →  Al₂O₃.xH₂O + 2NaHCO₃

Al₂O₃.xH₂O →  Al₂O₃ + H₂O

Equations of leaching of bauxite to get pure alumina.

The chemical equations involved in the leaching of bauxite ore to prepare pure alumina are as follows:

\boxed{ \sf \green{ First\: step: }}

Al_2O_{3(s)}+2NaOH{(aq)}+3H_2O{(l)}\underset{35-36 bar}{\xrightarrow{\text{473-523 K}}} 2Na[Al(OH)_4]{(aq)}

\boxed{ \sf \blue{ Second\: step: }}

2Na[Al(OH)_4]+CO_2{(s)}\underset{35-36 bar}{\xrightarrow{\text{473-523 K}}} Al_2O_3.xH_2O+2NaHCO_3

\boxed{ \sf \pink{ Third\: step: }}

Al_2O_3.xH_2O \overset{1407K}{\longrightarrow}</p><p></p><p>Al_2O_3+xH_2O
