Equations of motion are applicable for UNIFORMLY accelerated motion.

First of all , the equations of kinematics (i.e. motion) are as follows :

1) \: v = u + at

2) \: s = ut +  \dfrac{1}{2} a {t}^{2}

3) \:  {v}^{2}  =  {u}^{2}  + 2as

  • Here , 'v' is final velocity, 'u' is initial velocity, 's' is displacement and 'a' is acceleration and 't' is time.

In all these equations, the value of acceleration (a) has to be CONSTANT AND UNIFORM.

So, these equations are applicable only when the question states that the acceleration of the object is constant.
