Molecular mass of chloride =67.9 and the monovalent atom is chlorine

Explanation:

Let the metal be a monovalent metal with a charge 1

The molar mass of the monovalent metal can be calculated by multiplying equivalent mass with 1

⇒ mass of chloride is 32.4

⇒Equivalent mass of monovalent metal =35.5

Given metal is monovalent so the charge on the metal is 1

So the molar mass of the metal =32.4

Now we have to find the molecular mass of chloride

Charge on the metal =2, therefore two atoms of chlorine  are present in the chemical formula

The Chemical formula is MCl

⇒Mass of Chloride =35.5 (Cl⁻)

⇒So the molecular mass of chloride =32..4+35.5

= 67.9

The Molecular mass of chloride =67.9 and the monovalent atom is chlorine
