Name the leftmost junction as A, the one between first and second resistance as B, the one between second and third resistance as C and the rightmost one as D.

You can see that as A and C are connected by a wire, both of them are at the same potential. This is the same case as with B and D.

Merge these pair of junctions and you will find that all of the three resistances are in parallel. Hence the equivalent resistance is R/3
