To understand the concept of Equivalent weight it is important to understand the basic formula for the calculation of the same.

The Equivalent weight E of any acid can be calculated as

E= Molecular weight of acid / Basicity.

The basicity of Oxalic acid (H2 C2 O4) is equal to its valence factor which is =2.

So the equivalent weight becomes (2x1 +2x12 +4x16)/2= 45.

oxalic acid=C2 H2 O4
equivalent weight=24+2+64
=90
its valency is =2
so, equivalent weight =90/2
=45
