er (4) What is the greenhouse effect? OR Write a short note on Greenhouse effect. Ans. An increase in the average temperature of entire world is called the greenhouse effect. The solar radiations warm up the earth's surface. About 20 % of these incoming radiations are reflected back to the space and 19% is absorbed by atmosphere and clouds. Most of the remaining energy is absorbed by the earth's surface. Since there is excessive production of carbon dioxide and methane is last 50 - 60 years, these gases envelop around earth. They form a thick blanket which does not allow extra heat to escape in the outer space. These gases are called greenhouse gases (CO2. methane, water vapour and ozone). This heat is retained on the earth. This produces greenhouse effect which later results into global warming.

Answer:

The greenhouse effect is a process that occurs when gases in Earth's atmosphere trap the Sun's heat. This process makes Earth much warmer than it would be without an atmosphere. The greenhouse effect is one of the things that makes Earth a comfortable place to live.

Answer:

The greenhouse effect is a natural process that warms the Earth’s surface. When the Sun’s energy reaches the Earth’s atmosphere, some of it is reflected back to space and the rest is absorbed and re-radiated by greenhouse gases.

Greenhouse gases include water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone and some artificial chemicals such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).

The absorbed energy warms the atmosphere and the surface of the Earth. This process maintains the Earth’s temperature at around 33 degrees Celsius warmer than it would otherwise be, allowing life on Earth to exist
