Solution :-

Basic Method :-

→ Time taken by Eric to clean an aircraft himself = 4 hours .

so,

→ Per hour work of eric = (1/4)

similarly,

→ Time taken by Jane to clean an aircraft himself = 6 hours .

so,

→ Per hour work of eric = (1/6)

then,

→ Per hour work of both = (1/4) + (1/6) = (3 + 2)/12 = (5/12)

therefore,

→ Time taken by them to clean an aircraft together = (12/5) = 2(2/5) hours = 2 hours , 24 minutes .

LCM Method :-

→ LCM of 4 and 6 = 12 units = Let total work done .

so,

→ Efficiency of Eric = Total work / Time taken = 12/4 = 3 units / hour .

and,

→ Efficiency of Jane = Total work / Time taken = 12/6 = 2 units / hour .

then,

→ Efficiency of them together = (3 + 2) = 5 units / hour .

therefore,

→ Time taken by them to clean an aircraft together = (12/5) = 2(2/5) hours = 2 hours , 24 minutes .
