Ernesto is a large adult unicorn who has traveled 50 kilometers on his first trip to Salsazaria, while on another trip he has traveled 300 kilometers, running three times faster than his first flight, so how much is the ratio between the time he took on his new trip to the time Who took him on his first trip?

On Ernesto's first trip to Zalsazaria, the time it took him = 50km/old speed (old time)

Let's call this old time as OT

old speed, OS = 50km/OT

On his later trip,

new time = 300/(3)(OS)

new time = 100/OS

new time = 100/(50km/OT)

If old time = 1 (i.e., 1 min, 1 hour, 1 day, etc)

new time = 2*OT (i.e., 2 mins, 2 hours, 2 days, etc)

Ernesto's time (new time) to cover 300km is twice the time (old time) it took him to travel the 50km distance.

Answer:

Explanation:

Let speed of the 1st trip x miles / hr. and speed of the 2nd trip 3x / hr.

We know that

Speed = Distance/Time.

Or, Time = Distance/Speed.

So, times taken to covered a distance of 50 miles on his first trip = 50/x hr.

And times taken to covered a distance of 300 miles on his later trip = 300/3x hr.

= 100/x hr.

So we can clearly see that his new time compared with the old time was: twice as much.
