The St. Bernard or St Bernard
is a breed of very large working dog from the western Alps. They were originally bred for rescue at the Great St Bernard Pass on the Italian-Swiss border, and Little St Bernard Pass in the Italian-Frenchborder,[2] located close to one another. The two hospices were built and run by the same monk brotherhood. The breed has become famous through tales of alpine rescues, as well as for its enormous size.

- Personality: Saint Bernards are loving, placid dogs. ... However, Saint Bernards are equally quick to protect family members who they believe are in danger. Because they are so friendly, gentle and tolerant, Saints can be especially good for families with well-behaved children.
- The name "St. Bernard" originates from the Great St. Bernard Hospice, a traveler's hospice on the often treacherous Great St. Bernard Pass in the Western Alps, between Switzerland and Italy.
- The pass, the lodge, and the dogs are named for Bernard of Menthon, the 11th century Italian monk who established the station.Originally the Saint Bernard dog breed was used to guard the grounds of Switzerland's Hospice Saint Bernard as well as to help find and save lost and injured travelers.
- With awesome strength, impressive smarts, and a gentle spirit, Saint Bernards are the ultimate family guard dog. They are loyal and loving and unfaltering in their protective nature toward their families, especially kids. Assuming you can put up with a bit of drool, the Saint Bernard may be the perfect pet for you.
- Bernards smart, they are also eager to please and love spending time with large groups. They are so eager to be around people, they may actually sulk if they feel like they are being left out. Their sheer size and the sound of their barks can make Bernies a really good watchdog.
- Saint Bernards are very big and muscular in size that's why they require training and care on a professional level. Like most large dogs, however, they are not recommended for the first time owners. Even though they are very friendly and calm in temperament – their size can sometimes be too much to handle.
i hope it helps you.
