It is quite true escapism is one way to run away from harsh reality. Every human being has this escapist’s attitude in him/her. In fact it is a psychological defense mechanism. It is quite active in teenagers. They often use escapism in the form of fantasizing.  

In the poem Amanda, Amanda also indulges in this type of escapism. Her mother is quite critical of her ways and behavior; she often scolds her. However, Amanda always remains in her dream world.  

In the chapter Third Level also Charlie’s psychiatrist friend Sam also escapes to a leisurely town, Galesburg, where life was not as stressful as in New York.
