My First Time Away From Home" Leaving to go to college was my very first time away from home, and it took a lot of adjusting to a new surrounding. I didn't have my mom right by my side anymore and I needed to become more independent on doing things on my own. Adjusting to a new city, community, and school was a challenge because I was used to being in my own city, with my old friends, at my old school. I feel that my mom has spoiled me by doing laundry for me up to now, but I am now independent for having to do it on my own. Moving to Austin was a major change in my life because I had no family or friends here; they were all in San Antonio. My friends and I would walk downtown on the river walk just to have a nice time. It was the hang out, and I just knew that Austin didn't have anything that could compare. I would often get homesick because I missed my family so much. San Antonio is only an hour away from Austin so it was easy for me to make the trip back home. I missed home so much that I have gone back home every single weekend since I have been in college. I had started to get used to being in another city, and away from my family. It took a while to get adjusted to my new college life, and being away from home but I finally feel comfortable. I have made new friends and enjoyed my freedom, of not having my mom over my shoulder watching every move, but on the other hand I miss her so much that I go home every weekend. This experience has changed me for the better.
