Explanation:

You know the feeling of excitement when someone give you a delicious scoop of ice-cream. Living in a joint family is like receiving a triple scoop of your favourite ice-cream. The concept of living in a joint family dates way back. Imagine a haveli filled with kids running around, a twenty-person dining table where everyone ate together and lots of drama.

Finding joint families are rare today. However, the advantages of living in a family of 14 instead of 4 are highly underestimated. Here are 8 benefits of living in a joint family:

1. Unconditional love

Having more than your usually 3-4 members in a household gives you the extra dose of unconditional love and support. This can come from your grandparents, your aunts and uncles, your cousins and of course your parents. Kids who live in a joint family turn out to be more mature and caring.

2. Family Vacations

Travelling with your family in a mini-bus, taking over quarter of ever airplane and having the best “antakshari” sessions is unparalleled to any other experience. You get to travel more and travel bigger.

3. Responsibilities

Household chores such as washing the dishes, cleaning your bedrooms, arranging your books etc., can be a tedious task to handle alone. However, when you live in a joint family, the possibilities of you sharing a room are high, and thus responsibilities are divided. This will reduce the overall workload and make sure things get done more efficiently.

4. Sharing is caring

Have you always admired your cousin sister’s dresses, your uncle’s cool gadgets, also craved your grandmother’s delicious biryani. Well, if you live in a joint family, you have access to all these things. You can easily ask your cousin to borrow her dress, play with your uncle’s gadgets and gobble down your grandmother’s biryani.

5. Finances

As compared to a nuclear family, where financial responsibilities fall on the man and wife, a joint family is more economically friendly. With multiple earning individuals, the economic burden can be divided. This will allow you to individually have a larger disposable income.
