Answer:

Fashion is the prevailing custom in dress, manners, speech, etc. of a particular place and time, as established by the dominant section of society. Fashion is a means to look different in an indifferent world: so is the case with the students. They, too, are trying to catch up with the dominant section of their society-to look upto date and modern i.e. successful. There is a maddening race regarding fashion, everyone wants to look different. In this fake race of glamour, we are moving away from truth. Society has a huge role to play in it. Whenever the two people meet they talk about everything that is new and that can be embraced. They use artificial words, foreign languages, and far-off quotations and relate non-native history. Students do their best to copy the clothing of the rich. They also imitate the manners of greeting, meeting, chatting, eating, sleeping, joking, and etc. in their daily routines. Now the fashion has also included the show off, to buy the most expensive thing that others can’t. Mobile phone mania is a vital example of it.

This has inflicted much bad results on the students. Primarily, our society is responsible for it. We are getting away from our roots. We are giving up not only our traditions but also our religious believes to some extent. There is a huge change in our society overall. The life of simplicity is sinking somewhere and the glamour is taking over. Everything all around us has something of the vogue. This craze has shifted on to the students like other members of the society. The students around us have adopted all the fashions prevailing in society. Today, they wear stylish clothes following the westerners. They also copy their style of speech and mannerisms. Their style is rather artificial, and their comportment is devoid of feelings and emotions. The students of our homeland are paying more attention to the fashion than to their studies.

The fashion established in our society has a lot of bad effects. Firstly, it is ruining the country by destroying her economy. It is owing to the lesser savings that we stand at a backward state. The discrimination between the rich and the poor is increasing. Today, a costly dress, a bike and a mobile has become more important than a book.We know the truth deep down somewhere that every nation that rose to high status owes much to its youth. The youth is the builder or the protector of the state, so is the case with our young men. We need to give them better lines to work on than they have been provided with. We are a poor nation and we need to learn from history .We should follow what Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the great leader, said, “work, work and work”. But our attitude is proving the statement: “We learn from history that we do not learn from history”. We have to learn from our mistakes.

Answer:

“Fashions, if not very expensive and morally harmful, should be approved.”

Most of the students are very fashionable. The fashions of their dress to go on changing. We find different kinds of fashions of clothes. Sometimes girls like to wear long shirts. Sometimes they wear shorter ones. So also, they wear tight trousers or “shalwars” at one time and loose at another.

Girls also have fashions of the “hair.” Most girls like eastern fashions of making the hair. However, some also make their hair in the western style. They even have their hair cut. Some rich girls like to wear wigs in order to variegate (give variety to) their hair appearance. Sometimes the girls wear shoes with broad toes, and sometimes with pointed ones. The shoes may be closed at one time and may be open at another. There are fashions of “colors” of the dress even. Girls may like the dress in green color at one time. They may soon begin liking it in red at another. They may like light or dark colors at different times.

Boys also try to be fashionable. Quite a few of them in colleges like to wear the western dress of the latest style. The shapes of their shirts, coats, and pants go on changing with the fashion. Sometimes they wear shirts and coats of broad collars, and sometimes of narrow ones. Their pants may be with tight bottoms or with very loose bottoms. Now, for the better, they have different styles of Pakistani dress like the “Awami (public) suit.” Students also go on changing the styles of their hair. Sometimes their hair is quite long, and sometimes a little short. Sometimes there is a strange fashion among some boys of shaving off their heads.

Fashions are useful in a way. They provide color, brightness, and variety to college life. They make students care about their dress and behavior (for superb clothes quite often demand matching decent behavior). Fashions are harmful, too. Quite often students begin spending too much money on their dress. They become unnecessarily dress-conscious. In fact, rich students introduce new fashions. The fashions of their clothes change like the seasons. It is, therefore, necessary to tell these rich students to be simple in their appearance and behavior. An able student in out-of-fashion clothes is better than a useless student in fashionable clothes.

Thanks!
