Kino grabs her and hits her to the ground and takes the pearl back. As he is walking back to the house a man tries to take the pearl but Kino is too quick with his knife and kills the man and saves the pearl. Kino does all of this because he wants to better his life for his wife and son. That may be surprising because he hurts Juana, his wife, but he does that because he thinks he knows what is best but really his judgment is clouded and she was doing the right thing even though Kino could not tell.
