☞ Corruption is every-where in the world. It has entered the Indian society also. It is eating our values of life. Corruption means bribery or illegal gratofocations. It means selfish exercise of power by government officials. It also includes selfish exercise of influence by politicians.
Corruption is the root of all evils. It debases social, economic and political life. Infact, all aspects of life are debased. Every person indulges in unfair practices. In India of today, all government officials, politicians and ministers are corrupt. Even the anti-corruption department is not free from corruption. Files in offices do not move without bribe. A stage appears to have come in which people take corruption for granted.
The main cause of corruption is that every person wants easy money to become rich overnight. Secondly, the world has become materialistic. the position of a person is measured by the amount of wealth he possesses. So, every person wants to make money by hook or crook. Those in position, exploit their position easily.
Thirdly, the highest authorities have set a bad example. Even the ministers are corrupt. It is natural for officials of the lower rank to follow suit.
Fourthly, the salaries of the government servants are not enough. They cannot lead a life of status. As a result, they have to take bribe.
Various other factors like poverty, rising prices, lavish expenditure on social customs, vast powers in the hands of the officers have helped corruption to gain ground in India. Even Businessman indulge in corrupt practices. They hoard commodities of daily use. They create temporary shortage.
They indulge in black-marketing. There are other persons who manufacture spurious goods. There are persons who smuggle goods. All of them indulge in corruption.
Government mist take steps to root out corruption. It is taking deep roots. An honest person finds it difficult to continue in service. Instead of being honoured, he is implicated in false cases of corruption. What a fun !
