A cotton wool flying in the air due to luck but a bird flying due to its efforts:

Successful people do not wear luck but they create opportunities on their own.

A cotton wool is always ready to fly in the air by a gentle push from the forces causing motion for it. Even if it is in air, the air can push it away to a further place. It doesn't require any wing so as a bird does. A man who is growing with all the facilities, all the comforts will become something in life for sure but due to the availability of those materials, he has become truly lucky to get in motion.

On the other hand, a bird grows from within its very little zone. It learns to move its wings, spread them and feel the air. It tries to fly in the smooth breeze. When a strong air forces it to fall, it gets hard for it to fly. It keeps trying and trying, and in the very end, it learns to face airs against it, just like a man without any comfort zone does.

In a conclusion, it does matter what we have got ourselves while struggling to find a path, not a path chosen for us but the path what we choose for ourselves.

This quote is a good example of metaphor.

Cotton wool is compared to lucky people who get everything easily in life but many a times are swayed by the circumstances. A flying bird is compared to hard working people who don't wait for luck to be complaisant towards them. They pave their own on their merit and with own efforts.

Lucky people are benefited as they get everything without much struggle. But hard working people are those who become paradigm in society.

Like cotton wool the lucky people are carried away by their fate whereas hard working people, like a bird, keep reins of fate their hands.

Thus it's always better to be like a bird who takes flights with willingness  than a cotton wool which is just moving around without any purpose and motivation.
