Rugby was originally created at the Rugby School of England bewteen 1750 and 1823. In this version of Rugby handling the ball with your hands was permitted but you were not allowed to run with the ball in your hands to the opposing team's goal. To score you had to pass the ball to eachother down the field to score points. Back at that time Rugby was called many different names. Some of those names are folk football, mob football, or shove stride football. The sport of Rugby grew more and more popular each year. It finally got so big people decide to make Rugby a professional sport. This lead to the creation of the Rugby Football League. This was started on August 29, 1895. The Rugby Football League was created so that not just the rich people could play Rugby but the working class could play as well. When the league was created rules where changed as well. The original 15 player teams was dropped to 13 players.
