It was a Saturday night. My boyfriend Juan and I went to a party being thrown by one of our close friends because he was home from college for the summer. He had a luxurious, yet very homey kind of house, it was a mess from partying the whole night. People started to leave while we went outside to smoke a cigarette. Andres loved to smoke Marlboro Reds. We sit at a table he has under a tiki-hut in his backyard, there are red cups all over the ground, a table full of drinks and snacks, a fire pit burning, beer everywhere, the smell of liquor, cigarettes, and the wood from the fire pit, fill the air. There are chairs in the pool and everyone was too drunk to care.
We all start to make s’mores and reminisce about the days we were in high school together. Juan gets really quiet so I ask, "What’s wrong babe?" He says, "Nothing I was just thinking we should all go to Naples tomorrow, hit the beach we have a lot of beer left over and none of us work tomorrow." A few of our friends walk over and agree Naples would be fun and that they would like to come, they say good night and leave. We continue to discuss going to Naples. "Make sure to look up the weather," I told Juan." I'm too drunk you guys, I'm going to be so hung over tomorrow," Andres said. "We will come wake you up in the morning," I said. So Andres finally agreed and plans were set. We helped him clean up, said good night and went home.
10 a.m. loud and in my ear music is playing, all I hear is, "can't stop addicted to the shindig," and the guitar. That's my ringtone, so I know that must be Juan calling to wake me up. It’s my favorite song, yet I was so tired it made me aggravated, I throw my phone, roll out of bed, call Juan back, hop in the shower, and start getting ready.
