MAHARASHTRA
1. ART
From Kolhapuri chappals to Warli paintings, Maharashtra has a rich arts heritage. The richness of Maharashtra’s heritage is evident from the sheer range of the state’s traditional arts and crafts. The expertise of the artisans of Maharashtra can be seen in the fine art and craft finishes. The fine fabrics of mashru and himroo are the clear examples of their highest level of weaving art. The fabrics which looks like golden cloth are regarded to be one of the finest of its kind.
Bidriware is another well-appreciated craft of this state. It takes lots of skills and time in preparation.
Warli paintings are also famous in Maharashtra. They are tribal wall paintings of the warli tribes of Maharashtra.
2. CULTURE
Maharashtra is also known as the land of scholars, saints, actors and many people who have succeeded their fields in Maharashtra. About 79% of Maharashtrians are Hindu, and there are significant Muslim, Christian and Buddhist minorities. The Maharashtrian culture consists of people from all a vast majority of religions. The state of Maharashtra spans multiple cultures which includes cultures related to Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Sikhs, Christians, etc. Lord Ganesha, Maruti, Mahadeo in form of Shivlinga, Khandoba , Kalubai devi, and Lord Vitthal are some of the deities worshipped by Hindus of Maharashtra.
ODISHA
1. ART
The Indian state of Odisha has a rich cultural and artistic heritage. Due to the reign of many different rulers in the past, arts and crafts in Odisha underwent many changes giving an artistic diversity today in the forms of traditional handicrafts, painting and carving, dance and music.
Pata painting is considered an important form of Oriya painting which originated from the temple of Jagannath at Puri in the 12th century. This style developed under the patronage of the Ganga kings, and the kings of Bhoi dynasty. The purpose of the pata painting was to popularise the cult of Jagannath to the millions of pilgrims visiting Puri.
The Jagannatha Temple in Puri, is also known for its applique artwork of Pipili, silver filigree ornamental works from Cuttack, famous stone utensils of Nilgiri (Balasore) and various tribal influenced cultures.
In Odisha, sand art is a unique type of art form developed in Puri.
2. CULTURE
The diversity of the cultural and social background of the people of Orissa made it the bastion of rich cultural heritage with its historical monuments, archaeological sites, traditional arts, sculpture, dance and music. There is a rich cultural heritage in the state owing to the Hindu faith. Odisha has a chequered history of successive rules of different dynasties and assimilation and synthesization of the best of Buddhist, Jain and Hindu cultures and also Mahima cult. Odissi dance, handlooms and exquisite handicrafts impart a unique cultural identity to this land; one that has charmed in the past and will continue to enthrall visitors in the future not only from India, but also from the world over.
