Independence 70

We recently celebrated the 70th anniversary of our independence day. The most important questions that each one of us, the Indians, needs to ask of ourselves is: ‘Have we achieved complete independence? Have we realized all the ideals and objectives bequeathed to us by our great freedom fighters?’

Let’s try to answer the above mentioned questions very objectively.  The truth about the present state will really hit us very hard on the back of our head! The bitter truth is we have not used the hard-won freedom optimally. There is no denying the fact about the progress our nation has made with leaps and bounds in almost all the spheres; but it is all lopsided. We have not been thorough in our pursuits of excellence. The bitter truth is our Independence is a mere struggle for most of the masses.

Who would have thought more problems would crop up in independent India than in dependent India? Our great social reformers and freedom fighter struggled for independence for a better future that was to provide equality and better life conditions for all Indians in all spheres. But what an irony of their expectations! Even after 70 years of independence, India is wallowing in the mire of poverty, unequal distribution of the national income and resources, poor management of natural resources, rampant corruption in public sector, and government run offices and departments, orthodox educational system, communalism, terrorism, poor infrastructure, and many more. The poor and the less privileged masses were struggling before independence, they are still struggling. Where are the achievements that other free nations have achieved? China is far ahead of India in all spheres! So are many other countries.

We as a nation need to revise our policies, goal setting, and approach to goal realization, only then something substantial will be achieved! We ,as Indians, all need to put in our heart, soul, and mind to maintain this precious freedom and work concertedly to achieve all the goals that still remain far from our reach.
