By the time India got independence, the role of citizenship also changed. The independence of India, the main aim of the citizenship was to achieve independence. On the other hand, after India got independence, the citizenship played an important role in establishment of good governance and making of constitution.

Earlier in pre-independence time, the citizenship had only single aim of independence, but in post-independence period, the aim of citizenship has now turned towards overall development of the country. The role of citizenship has always been an important part in every field of the country.
