Answer:

When stressful situations arise it is natural for us to reach out to friends, family, network, etc., and ask for some advice.

We want to know what they think. We want to know how they feel about it and what they would do if they were in a similar situation. And so, we get the advice. We hear different perspectives. We receive great insight, and eventually, we formulate our own decision.

Or so we think.

I’ve been battling a similar situation on whether or not I should continue going to school or just take some time off, possibly drop out. If you’re a traditional student who never stopped going to school right after high school, then the ominous stories of dropping out and failing at life lingers in your mind — although we know that’s not true at all.

Many people, like myself, hear advice — or hear what they want to hear — and they quickly act on it, almost as if the advice was the nail in the coffin; we have the answer in mind, but sometimes we search for that final confirmation. And this is where most of the problem lies.
