The Constitution of India is one of the finest legal documents ever drafted. Being one of the lengthiest in the world with 395 Articles and 12 Schedules, its functional efficacy was doubted by many when it came into force on January 26, 1950.


The international community at that point of time thought that an infant democracy, which India then was, could not operate with such a detailed legal framework that left almost no area of State’s operation untouched.

Fifty five years later we are well positioned to claim that we have been able to run a country as large and as diverse as ours under the guiding spirit of the world’s lengthiest Constitution.
