Sometimes life isn't about all rainbows and sunshine.
The fact that there was no catastrophic pandemic in recent history does not mean there won't be another one.
The sudden outbreak of COVID-19 has left the whole world in danger and confusion. We don't know when will this pandemic end. At this crucial point of time where social distancing is the need of the hour, the whole country is under lock down.
Let us discuss in detail about the pandemic.
What is Corona Virus?
It is a virus or group of viruses which causes diseases in humans or animals. It causes respiratory problems ranging from normal cold to serious diseases such as SARS which stands for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, MERS which stands for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, COVID-19.
Covid-19 is one of the serious infectious diseases caused by coronavirus. This virus originated in Wuhan, China, in December 2019 and now has spread in many parts of the world.
Symptoms of Covid-19 :-
- Fever
- Common cold
- Dry cough
- Fatigue
- Aches
- Diarrhea
It is a contagious disease and hence can be transmitted if you come in contact of people who have it already. It can spread from one person to the other through droplets from mouth or nose. On coughing or sneezing, the droplets land on the objects or surfaces nearby, so touching them is risky as well. If a person touch such objects and then touch his mouth, eyes, nose, virus can easily get into the body.
Precautions to be taken :-
- Avoid public places. Chances of spreading the virus is high in public places.
- In case you need to travel, always wear masks and gloves.
- Don't touch your face often.
- Wash your hands thoroughly (palm, back of hands, between fingers, under the nails) with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Maintain a good distance from the person who is coughing or sneezing.
What is required to do now?
The only solution right now to prevent it is to follow lockdown and social isolation.
Our Hon'ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi has announced lock down in the whole country. We as responsible citizens of India should follow it.
In this time of crisis, where social isolation is the need of the hour, there are things which we can do at our homes to keep ourselves busy and happy.
The Government of India has also launched "Aarogya Setu" app which connects essential health services with the people of India in our combined fight against Covid-19. The app inform the users regarding risks, best practices and relevant advisories pertaining to the containment of Covid-19. The app uses your Bluetooth and GPS location for awaring you if you come across an infected person.

Coronavirus is the latest epidemic that has broken out in the world jeopardizing the lives of human beings on the planet. The first case of a person infected with this virus was reported from Wuhan, China, on 31 December 2019.
The situation in China is quite critical; as many as 244,988 people have been reported dead with this virus across the world. Total number of infected patients is 3,498,151; 1,126,733 infected people have recovered. The disease is spreading to other countries. Situation in Iran and Italy is also very critical.
In India to 39,980 people have been reported infected with this virus. 1,323 people have died; and 10,819 people have recovered. Indian Government has taken many preventive measures. All schools, colleges, universities, cinemas, etc. have been closed till May 17, 2020.
World Health Organization has issued many advisories to the people of world to keep themselves safe. Some basic precautionary measures include hygienic precautions such as washing your hands frequently, maintaining distance from people (minimum 1 meter).
In spite of the lockdown, many people are not taking the situation seriously. They form groups and roam here and there. Whenever people do this, they become exposed to the possibility of being infected with it. People must cooperate the Government to fight against this deadly pandemic.
The scientists in China and other advanced nations are working round the clock to discover an antidote to the virus. Until then the situation is very critical.
Until its cure is found, only prevention is the best way to deal with it.
