Good Aspects of Dashain

1. Festival for all age group

Dashain is the festival which is entertained by all. Childrens, adult, old all celebrate and enjoy in Dashain. Family gathering, eating meats especially 'खसी ' , flying kites, visiting temples, playing cards, worshiping god & goddess etc. are the activities performed in dashain.

2. Family bonding

Dashain is the festival celebrated with family and relatives, so it brings family closer. From busy life people get some time to meet and celebrate a special occasion with family and relatives. All the disputes and quarrels between relatives are forgotten in dashain.

3. Vacation

Dashain is the longest festival celebrated in Nepal. Teachers and students normally gets a month holiday whereas others may get a holiday of 5 days to a week long holiday. Break of 5 days or a month doesnot matter because 'break is a break'. Mustang and pokhara are the popular destinations preferred by visitors during dashain, according to current reports.

4. Dashain bonus

Dashain is longest as well as most expensive festival we celebrate. Almost every government and private sector organization provides a bonus to their employee. Those who celebrate dashain might spend their bonus on meat, shopping or playing cards. And those who don't celebrate can put it into savings or plan a holiday trip.

5. A clean city

1.9 million people leave kathmandu valley in just 20 days from 5th september to 25th of september for dashain in 2017. People from outside the valley, residing here for various purpose like for job, study, business etc. leave kathmandu in dashain to get blessings from elders and have a good time with their family. Kathmandu looks more beautiful when its less crowded. There aren’t huge clouds of smoke escaping from museum-worthy vehicles. There are no massive piles of garbage festering on the side of the road. There are no litterbugs decorating the streets with wrappers.

Bad Aspects of Dashain

1. It brings happiness in one side but other side it becomes tension in poor family. Dashain now- a-days has become rich man's festival.

2. More chance of insecurity throughout the country, i.e accident, theft, robbery etc.

3. People play cards and gambling where they loose their properties and many people even loose their home which can destroy their own and family life.

4. Just for show offs people use a lot of money in dashain, even by taking loans. People spend money beyond their capacity.

5. Practice of animal sacrifice is done in Dashain and in other festivals and ceremonies. Around 80,000 goats were sold in dashain this year(2017) in kathmandu valley alone.
