Answer:

Often times subconsciously we expect the person we helped to be good to us. If not good then atleast we expect he or she should be considerate towards us in his or her demeanour. And when these expectations are not met we get disappointed.

Hence the saying, do good and simply erase the act from your mind so that there won't be any expectations from others, but keep doing good. In my opinion it has nothing to do with bragging about goodness. It is to convince thyself that do good and forget the act.

This proverb essentially means that one must do a good deed for the sake of goodness and not in return for some expected reward. Instead of harping about one’s goodness, one must simply do good and not carry out a procession to make a show of one’s goodness.

This echoes the essence of the Bhagavadgita where Krishna tells Arjuna that he must do his duty and not worry about the results.

do good, be good.

I believe Its similar to the proverb in Hindi (Neki kar and dariya mey daal)

It basically means Forget the good things you have done! It is said so because Humans get hurt easily and even more by expecting!

So do the good and don’t count it and its not our duty to count our good deeds I believe it should be known to Almighty Alone.

And when you do good by helping others for example : You have done a charity gave money to the poor with your right hand left hand should not know about the charity made by right hand.!!! (People often say this)
