The pathetic situation to the changing times exhibits that the river is being deliberately destroyed by the selfishness of the rich and the impassivity of the powerful. It would not be an overstatement to say the river which passes through the present day Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha, percolating into the Bay of Benga have dried up to the greatest extent. In every state, perpetual rivers are either becoming periodically or completely going dry. In Kerala – the Bharatpuzha, in Karnataka – the Kabini, in Tamil Nadu – the Kaveri, Palar, and Vaigai, in Odisha – the Musal, in Madhya Pradesh – the Kshipra. Many miniature streams have already disappeared.
Ranchi, once a famous tourist spot due to its cooling climate and deep lush green cover, is now suffering the brunt of this rather unfortunate situation. Jharkhand uses to dry up initially as well but it utilized to dry up in the period of May. It would start draining from the last week of April and dry fully by May. Now, this trend is apparent from March onwards only because our water catchment states have decreased a lot over time. Due to its drying up of rivers, tourism has completely vanished and complain that there is no water and it is very hot.
