Answer:

Rights and duties play an important part in the development of a nation or the growth of an organization. Rights on the one hand give an individual an opportunity to be a part of development process while duties on the other hand make an individual obliged to play a part in the development. As a citizen of a democratic country we all are privileged to have some fundamental rights. But, apart from these rights we also have fundamental duties which we rarely talk about. Moreover responsible citizenship is not just about enjoying the fundamental rights and performing the fundamental duties mentioned in our constitution but it is about going beyond those duties.

Answer:

Fundamental Rights Complement Fundamental Duties

As social beings, our Fundamental Duties are rules of interaction among people. They place constraints and obligations upon the actions of the state and individuals or groups.

Rights are defined as claims of an individual that are essential for the development of his or her own self and that are recognized by society or State. These are legal and social principles of freedom or entitlement and are the fundamental rules granted to the citizens of our country.

Rights are considered fundamental to civilization, being regarded as established pillars of the society and culture. These rights are human rights so that people can enjoy different freedoms under a good and civilized government and which no authority can restrict in normal situations.

But for our rights to have real meaning and significance every individual must perform duties. Rights without duties will be pointless and lead to different problems in every aspect of life. A duty is something that someone is expected or required to do. Life can be balanced if rights and duties go hand in hand and become complementary to each other. Rights are what we want others to do for us whereas the duties are those acts which we should perform for others.

Thus, a right comes with an obligation to show respect for the rights of others. The obligations that accompany rights are in the form of duties. If we have the right to enjoy public facilities like transport or health services, it becomes our duty to allow others to avail the same. If we have the right to freedom, it becomes our duty not to misuse this and harm others. Our freedoms must not become a tool to deny others the same freedoms we enjoy. There will be conflicts, chaos and confusion if everyone demand their fundamental rights with no concern for fundamental duties towards others.

Fundamental Rights and Fundamental Duties are inseparable and always go hand in hand. Hence the Fundamental Rights and Fundamental Duties enshrined in the Constitution are equally important. The are two sides of the same coin and they complement each other.
