Sanskrit is a historical Indo-European language and the sacred language of Hinduism and Buddhism. Currently, Sanskrit is one of the 22 official languages of India and one of the official languages of the state of Uttarakhand.
- As the state has many Hindu temples and pilgrimage sites, it is called 'Devabhoomi' or 'Land of Gods'. The state is famous for the natural beauty of the Himalayas, Bhavar and Terai regions.
- On 9 November 2000, the state of Uttarakhand was created as the 27th state of the Republic of India, comprising the Himalayas and adjoining districts of the state of Uttar Pradesh.
