Hello!!
Holi is a famous festival of the Hindus. Very simply, it is called the festival of colours because colours are enormously used during this festival. It generally falls in the month of March. In Nepal, it is mostly celebrated in the Terai; nowadays, it is celebrated all over the country.
This festival does own cultural and religious significance. It is attributed to the story of Prahlad who was a great devotee of God Bishnu but Prahlad's father did not like it. He tried to killed his son, Prahlad, several times but he could not. Once he ordered his sister Holika to burn him to death. She took Prahlad in her arms and sat on a great burning fire. She was once blesssed not to be harmed by a fire, but that time blessing did not help her. She was killed in the fire but Prahlad was safe. Here, Holika stands for destructive evils and Prahlad signifies a true devotee. Holi festival has been celebrated as it symbolizes the of victory of devotion and virtue over evils.
It is celebrated with great joy and enlightnment. People prepare sweets and enjoy them. They also worship gods. Everybody puts on new clothes. Small and young boys manage small parties, sing and dance. People smear their faces with different colours. They throw coloured water on one another. All the participants get wet. Thus, the days of Holi are merry making. In order to create fun, they also exchange and crack funny jokes. Everybody forget sorrows and deserves complete glee and happiness.
This festival has both advantages and disadvantages. This festival seems to be advantageous because people are completely happy. They can build up brotherhood, friendship, love and closeness. This festival helps people remove quarrels, bitterness, enmity, brutality and hatred. But nowadays, we can realize some drawbacks of it.Some people drink, sing vulgar songs and speak filthy language. Such misbehaviour leads them to quarrels, enmity and ruins.
We can say as the conclusion that this festival is really advantageous although it has some disadvantages. People should reform it in order to avoid unpleasant and unwanted activities during this festival. It is expected that the educated people of the societies should play a leading role to reform it. Then, it kills evil thoughts and activities.
