Hunting is the practice of killing animals for meat or recreation. In historic times, hunting originated as a necessity, to ward off dangerous animals and for food. However, it took the form of recreation, and Shikar became a common practice.
Hunting of animals has lead to a decrease in their populations, and many a species are endangered today because of hunting only. The populations of some animals and birds have reduced to such an extent, that they are only a few hundred in numbers on this planet. The most famous examples of such animals are tigers, lions ans elephants. There are only about 500 tigers in India. This numbers has increased because of government intervention and conservation efforts taken. The conservation efforts taken by the government include ban on hunting of endangered and vulnerable species, breeding, reduction in death rate and severe punishments for hunting of such animals.
Although such efforts are successful to some extent as they have controlled hunting to some extent, more strict laws must be enforced and the security of these animals need to improve, in order to stop hunting of these animals.
