Educate a Woman to Educate a Woman
Educate a man, educate a person. Educate a woman, educate a family. It has been told to me by many people at many points in time, and mostly in favour. This is seen by many as pro-women. It stands for girls, and after all, is talking about how women should be educated. However, I can't help but see this the other way. According to me, all this statement does is to re-iterate the gender bias.
Reading a statement a second time makes one realize that the only thing the statement does is to put the woman back into her domestic zone. She need to be educated, but for the wrong reasons, it seems. She needs to be educated so that she will go back and teach her family. She has no personal career goals and must prioritize her family over everything else. On the other hand, for the man, the emphasis is on him as an individual. He should be educated so that he can go out and do something for himself. Not only is this 'selfishness' of men naturalized, it is also encouraged.
The point is simple. A woman does not need to be compared to the man in all aspects for her to get her basic rights. A woman needs to be educated because she deserves it. That should be enough of a reason in itself, with no more of her 'social responsibilities' dragged in.

Educating Women is the Best Way to Empower a Nation

It has rightly been said by someone in Africa 'If you educate a man you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman, you educate a woman.' In the light of the above mentioned axiom, empowering the girl child with education is the best and the wisest option a nation could have in empowering itself. In the big vast world of ours, many nations in African, Asian, and South American continents are still grappling with the problems of backwardness. Hunger, poverty, unemployment, poor standards of living, poor medical facilities, poor education, et., are still lingering on in the developing countries. Empowering girl child with education us the only panacea. With her education, not only she will be benefited, she will spread the light of education all around her. She will teach her brothers, sisters, neighbors, and other adults; this will lead to a positive ripple effect that will lead to skill enhancement and the prospects of being hired by competent companies will increase. Besides, an educated girl child ensures the surety of other educated family members. So empowering girl child with education is the+ best investment a nation can make!

A nation that doesn't empower its girl children with education can never achieve the objectives of self-reliance in agriculture, industry, and service sector. For India the objective of 100% literacy is still quite distant. Owing to so many factors the rate of girls enrollment in schools is quite low! And as long as the gap is not filled, the prospect of our nation becoming a developed country looks quite bleak. Indian government needs to precipitate the process of girls empowerment through education by implementing new laws. The private schools can be roped in achieving the goal. People and NGOs should also be involved in this mission. With the concerted efforts only the girls empowerment through education is possible.
