An Essay on the Impact of Fashion on Students !

This is the age of fashion, we speak, behave, decorate our houses and our lifestyle in general.

Fashion as described in the English dictionary is “the prevailing mode in such things as are subject to change in form of a style, as in ornaments, etiquette and especially in dress”.

So all pervading is its influence, that it is but natural for students to get afflicted with this symptom of modernity.

In a way it lends variety to our lives, providing an element of excitement in trying out something new. It would indeed be a drab life, if we as were supposed to behave and dress similarly. Change is therefore not only desirable but also welcome, The hero, heroines of the tinsel world and the fashion models are the trendsetters who are the role models for our youth. They are the Icons around whom the ‘fashion’ revolves.

It is but natural that students, who are in their adolescence, get attracted to fashion and try to emulate “their role models. This invariably distracts them from their studies and quite often they rue this throughout their lives. It does not in any way imply, that they should not be smartly dressed. They should dress and behave appropriately, so that they do not distract others as well as maintain the sanctity of the educational institution.

It has also been seen that their indulgence in fashion creates a divide among the haves and the have-nots more glaring, which at times appears vulgar. It also leads to psychological imbalance in them, as they try to ape their affluent friends. However in the absence of means they resort to unlawful and unethical acts. There are thus instances of youngsters taking to crime, just to buy a fashionable dress or suit for being with in fashion.

Answer:

Impact of Fashion on Students:

The century we live in is an age where everything is advanced and the fashion is also high. People tend to immediately copy or imbibe in themselves whatever new sense of fashion they see outside or even in televisions.

Fashion is basically the sense of dressing, or behavior or even living style influenced by others. The trend of ever changing clothing, footwear or anything is fast catching and it is somehow exhausting to even try to classify the different stages.

Kids/ students nowadays are more technologically advanced than the previous centuries. With smart technology like phones, laptops, internet, everything is easily accessible for them. And withe the growing interest of world issues, politics alone doesn't rule the web anymore. Many series, shows, dramas etc are easily available for them to view, and with that comes the interest in the dresses of the characters or anyone they admire. Immediately, they would try to emulate that in their lives. Not only shows, but many music videos influence them. a special mention should be made about the booming K-pop or Korean pop culture in our country and the youths. These Korean stars' dressing styles and behaviors are immediately caught on by the youngsters, trying it on themselves and even beginning to act like them.

Even in schools, the dressing style of students began to imitate that of these television stars. Skirts became a hype, shorter and shorter length, boys with colored hair, tight fitting pants and earrings to make them look cool. These, in all cases, are the exact opposite of how school kids should be. Instead of paying attention on their education, they began to be more conscious of what their peers are wearing and how they can also be like them. Gone are the days when uniforms mean a simple yet similar outfits all week. Nowadays, even if there are uniforms, their styles and lengths vary, each with different takes. The interest in books are gone, diverted to the interest in dressing better.

But in all these, there are some students who are an exception. They still remain the same education conscious kids they are. But with the majority hype of the 'influenced' kids overshadowed these group of kids.

It is not wrong for anyone to try to copy a better style of living or dressing. But, there are limits in doing anything. If this fashion takeover craze is also taken in moderation, it will help a long way in improving the society. But with excessive impact always comes the negative side affects. Who is to say that in sheer desperation, a person may not commit crime just to get his hands on a new set of clothes.
