Many people choose not to vote; they believe that this choice only has an affect on them; this is simply not the truth. Your choice not to vote has consequences for people not only in this country, but also all over the world. Many people in other countries cannot vote and some die everyday fighting for this right. In Afghanistan the first elections in many years have been recently held despite the threats of violence and disruption by the Taliban, mostly aimed at blocking a woman's right to vote. Because the United States of America is a major world power, the people who win elections now will set policies that have far-reaching effects on peoples all over the world. The President, and the cabinet he appoints set U.S. foreign policy. Your vote helps determine who will shape the policies of the U.S.A. now and in the future. Many people in this county are not happy with the decision to invade Iraq; if you do not support this decision then you should vote against the people who made it. If you choose not to vote, you are abandoning these people who do not have a voice in their own government, and who must rely on other countries to help them achieve this right.
