                               An Indian Farmer

Indian farmers are the nation’s pride. India is marching on the road of success because of the farmers. They have played a pivotal role in making our country self-reliant in food grains, fruits, vegetables, and milk production. They provide Indian economy the much needed impetus by bringing green revolution.

Agriculture sector in India contributes to GDP in a big way. 50 % of workforce is employed in this sector; share of agriculture in GDP is 18 %.

An Indian farmer leads a very busy life every day. He has to shoulder the responsibility of feeding not only his family, but the entire nation. From morning till late evening he works in the fields. His job requires so much hard labor, but he never shuns it.

He has to face many challenges such as low market price; shortage of facilities, pests, water scarcity, and many more. In spite of the challenges he continues to give his best to feed the nation.

At times he is unable to repay the loans; the mounting debt becomes a big issue for them. In many parts of India suicide cases of farmers have happened.

A farmer’s personal life is equally challenging. He has to devote time to his children and family. He has to pay for the education and medical care of his family members. He has to look after his cattle. But the great Indian farmer never complains.

The Indian Government has launched many welfare and financial help programmes for the farmers. However, much more needs to be done for them to improve their lot. The farmers’ families should be provided free education and medical care facilities.

The entire nation should feel grateful to these food creators. All the people and cattle would famish if the farmers stopped growing food grains, vegetables, and fruits.
