India is a country rich in unity in diversity. So many people live in the single country so this country has many festivals. People all over the world celebrate the festivals of one another and respect their tradition and customs.
Lohri is a popular Punjabi Festival celebrated on 13th January. It is believed that the days are becoming shorter and the nights are becoming longer. People light bonfire and sing and dance. They pay their respect to Dulha Batti.
Not only Punjabis but Haryanvis and Himachalis also celebrate this festival with great pleasure. Lohri gets it's name from "Loh" which is used for making chapattis.
People of UP and Bihar call this Makar Sankranti. Mainly, farmers celebrate this festival and throw gur, seasame seed,popcorn, etc. On this day people eat foods like makki ki roti with Sarso ka Saag, gur, gazak, til, moongphali, phoolia and Prasad. In olden days people use to gift each other gujak. People avoid the cutting of trees instead plant more trees.
Lohri' is a famous festival of Punjabi people. It is celebrated in North India especially in the States of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand and Jammu. On this festival people gather around the bonfires, throw sweets, puffed rice and popcorn into the flames, sing popular songs and exchange greetings. The prasad comprises of six main things: til, gazak, gur, moongphali, phuliya and popcorn. The gatherings and celebrations make Lohri a community festival.
