Essay on look before you leap

It is always better to look before you leap or else there is a great danger of falling into a ditch. To act without prior thinking will lead us into endless trouble. Elderly people often say that haste always makes waste. Rushing into things without prior thinking will lead to wastage of time, resource and energy. Rash decisions many a times lead to dangerous and unwanted consequences. It is similar to jumping into a river without knowing its depth and flow. It does not mean though that one should delay in making decisions or avoid taking a stand. Rather, one should think twice before taking a decision. One should think things out rationally and logically to reach to a conclusion. Quick decisions are always welcome but not rash decisions. Even if one has to act on impulse and has no time to think things out as hi times of an emergency, then also one should use one’s presence of mind and do something. Quick decision-making should be coupled with prudence and justice. For instance, the great conqueror Napoleon Bonaparte took a rash decision of attacking Russia without realizing or taking into consideration the fierce and terrible whiter conditions of the country. Resultantly, his armies were trapped in snow and the Iron Guards of his army, of whose strength Napoleon was extremely proud of, got completely destroyed and annihilated. Historians believe that due to this one rash and hasty decision, Napoleon lost the crowning glory of his army. It was a loss from which he could never recover. It is hard to believe that a man with an unshakable will power and sound reasoning made such a rash decision.......

Think before you speak

Speaking before you think is a bad habit that can get you into trouble and hurt you in the most important areas of your life. Relationships will suffer or end, your career will be stalled at a level far below your talents, and most importantly, you will have little confidence in yourself.

Your speech shapes your life. Time and again you find yourself in situations where the outcome depends on what you say and how you say it. Your words are a reflection of who you are. If your words are getting you into trouble, you’re showing others the very worst parts of you. You’re presenting yourself as being thoughtless, careless or just plain hurtful.

Not only do your words create a positive or negative reaction in the world around you; your speech influences your thinking and can alter the course of your future. Your words are a way of underlining your thoughts and reinforcing them. When your words are harsh, negative, inconsiderate, or judgmental then these are the aspects of your experience that are emphasized. It won’t be long before you have developed the habit of always focusing your thoughts on the darker side of life. You know what kind of a person this will turn you into – a miserable, depressing and mean spirited person who sees only the bad and not the good in others or in life.

If you speak before you think about what you’re going to say, you do not take the time to consider what words you will use, what these words will mean to another person, or how they will feel about what you’re saying. You are also not thinking about what these words say about you as a person or about all of the good things you may be neglecting to focus on.

Essay writing on "Look before you leap and think before you speak".

Explanation:

In our lives, we are sure to encounter events or times when there will come the need to react impulsively. this impulse reaction to any given situation will not only lead to a much worse after effect, or even a disastrous result. But if things are dealt with in a reasonable manner, then the repercussions a be lesser than when reacted on an impulse.

The popular maxim "Look before you leap" or "Think before you speak" both have the same intended meaning behind them. It is basically a warning or a hint that we need to think or give some thought to any harsh action acted upon us. If these acts, however bad they may be, are paid back on an impulse without any sensible thinking, then the worse can happen. So, it is best to think rationally before replying to anything out of anger. Angry responses never bring to a peaceful solution, but rather it brings an even more dangerous or disastrous effect.

There are times when someone did something bad to us, or made us angry or did something against our liking. And it is well too easy to respond back with the same level of anger, the same level of hurt and damage that was inflicted upon you. But these reactions will only lead to more outbursts, more angry reactions which will escalate more and more. But if even in that time of anger, we all take a step back and think rationally before giving any response on even a bad act, then there is a chance of a peaceful resolution to whatever the issue may be. And it is such type of rational thinking before replying or giving back any reaction is what the older generations often tell us- to "look before you leap" and to "think before you speak". For whatever is uttered or done in anger cannot be taken back, however much we may regret it in the later stage.
