There are many different reasons we need male teachers today in society. They have to face advantages and disadvantages. Some of these male teachers find the need, or desire, to mentor these young boys. Female educators are important but male educators are just as important in ways not possible by a female. Male and female teachers both provide education that the other sex is weaker in. Therefore, it is critical that young people get exposure to both in the educational environments. With being a male educator there are a great amount of advantages. The greatest advantage of being a male teacher would be the self satisfaction. The pay for a male teacher would be a disadvantage and one of the reasons we do not have many male teachers today. Another disadvantage is the negative response from the surrounding society. In Janet Smith's paper, on Male Primary Teachers, she stated that most men pursuing a career in primary education will receive negative reactions from family members and friends. This disadvantage could lead to another which is being seen as a child molester.
Men who go into primary teaching are constantly being watched concerning their behavior or sexuality. These men are asked questions about their motives and sexuality, and some are assumed to be pedophiles or homosexuals (Janet Smith). With being an elementary male teacher, or any male teacher, you are faced with heavy impacting disadvantages. In society today most people value male teachers; however, there are certain social stigmas that male teachers are accused of because they wish to go into the field of education. Along with society, male teachers have a great influence on young boys. In society most male teachers are looked at based on their sexuality and not how the quality of their teaching. For example, most homosexual male teachers are looked at based on their sexual preference and may be accused of being child molesters.

If the two will be compared in terms of satisfaction with respect to pay, researches revealed that men are more likely to be dissatisfied with what ther receive professionally, while women are the more enduring one.

Why female teachers are under paid? Taking into consideration the abovementioned facts, there still remains an agony for female teachers not to be given what they truly deserve. Statistics presented data that since 1990, there was no real increase in teacher’s salaries as more of the teachers are moving to other high-paying jobs. Teaching was once recognized to be a female job. Researches held data that being an educator was once a rewarding and a promising career for women, practically speaking. But this has changed as less attention was given to improving the
welfare of teachers. Nowadays, there is a stagnant progress when it comes to adjusting or increasing their salaries. Schools in the United States originally subscribe to the step system. In this scale, the goal was to motivate the teachers to earn their degrees and eventually pursue their graduate studies which then would be equivalent to getting higher salaries.
