Kālidāsa was a Classical Sanskrit writer. He is widely regarded as the greatest poet and dramatist in the Sanskrit language of India.

His poetries are mostly based on Puranas, Vedas and Mahabharata. It is speculated that Kalidasa may have lived near the Himalayas, in the vicinity of Ujjain, and in Kalinga.

He is well known for his masterpiece play- Abhijñānaśākuntalam.
